Eagles get their second chance of the season this weekend
STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Rifle looks to improve upon a solid start to the season on Saturday at Ole Miss. The Eagles enter the weekend ranked No. 27 in the CRCA rankings and shoot for the first time exclusively against ranked opponents. Ole Miss is ranked No. 11 and Army checks in at No. 13.
MEET INFORMATION
Location – Oxford, Miss.
Time – 3 p.m. (ET)
Live Scoring – Ole Miss
A PRIMER ON RIFLE COMPETITIONS
The Eagles will shoot on digital targets at both the small bore (.22) and air rifle disciplines. Each shooter will take 20 shots from the kneeling, prone and standing positions on the small bore rifle before switching to 60 shots standing with the air rifle. Total scores from each weapon will be kept separately to determine the final classification. Shots on target score between 1-10 points each with a maximum of 600 points on offer for each weapon.
AT SEARC-2
The Eagles opened the 2015-16 season on Oct. 3 at SEARC-2, hosted by Georgia Military College. Georgia Southern set a new school record in the meet, recording a composite score of 4,359. Freshman Rosemary Kramer led the way for the Eagles with a 1,126 aggregate score including a 580 on the air rifle. Kathryn Youngbloood posted a 574 on air rifle and 1,090 aggregate score to help the cause.
SSEC OPENS FOR BUSINESS
Last week Georgia Southern officially opened the Shooting Sports Education Center, the new home of Georgia Southern Rifle. The facility allows the team to practice on a climate controlled range with Olympic caliber digital targets.
WHAT COACH JIM RIGGS SAID
"We've had a great few weeks leading up to our trip to Ole Miss. I'm excited for the team to see a new facility and I think we've got a great opportunity to improve our scores from our first meet. We'll be back to shooting on digital targets this week which is something we've become experienced with at our new facility."
NEXT UP
For the first time in program history, the Eagles will visit Ole Miss on October 17th for a meet against the nationally ranked Rebels and the Army Black Knights.
