
Men's Tennis Wraps Up First Weekend

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's tennis team wrapped up competition in the first fall tournaments of the year. The Eagles split the squad in two and competed in the Seahawk Invitational and the Mercer Bear Gridiron Classic.
In competition in Wilmington, N.C., Ristomatti Lanne defeated UNC Wilmington's Sam Williams 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 before falling to UNC Wilmington's Van der Burgh 7-6 (6), 6-2 in the semifinals.
"Overall this was a great weekend for the Eagles," Head Coach Nick Zieziula. "We competed well throughout, stuck to the areas that we were focused on improving and came away with some good 'w's'. We are looking forward to 2 weeks of practice before we compete again."
In the consolation bracket, Albert Codina Sala fell to UNC Wilmington's Xander Veys 6-2, 6-1 before knocking off Old Dominion's Zvonimir Podvinski 7-5, 6-2. Kyle Hoffman rallied to defeat NC Central's William East 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 and knocked off Campbell's Marthinus Visser 6-3, 6-3.
Also in action on Sunday at the Seahawk Invitational, Jose Eduardo Landin Lopez fell to Gardner Webb's Protsenko 7-5, 6-4 before winning over Michael Perry 6-3, 7-5. Landin also partnered with Codina Sala to defeat Old Dominion's double tandem of Glavin and Perelman 8-7 (5). Also in doubles Sunday, Lanne and Hoffman fell to Kaszas and Protsenko of Gardner Webb 8-7 (6).
Wrapping up play at the Gridirion Classic, Christian Kerrigan fell to Luke Saunders 7-5, 6-0 in the consolation bracket.
The men's tennis team will return to action Sept. 26. The squad will again split in two and compete in the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational and the Elon Fall Invitational.
