Georgia Southern continues to compete to prepare for postseason
STATESBORO, Ga. – Junior Jasmin Walker, who recently earned SoCon honors as the Most Outstanding Athlete and Most Outstanding Track Performer at last month's championships, was selected Most Valuable Performer for the 2013-14 Track & Field Eagles. Asha Stegall was honored as the Freshman of the Year at Wednesday night's awards banquet.
In addition to presenting the program's annual awards at Bishop Field House, Coach Marlo Mincey spoke about each of the young women honored and gave each of the nine in their final year a plaque as a remembrance of their career as Eagles. Brianna Charles, Dana Edwards, Deanna Edwards, Cherrelle King, Sherril McFarlane, Iesha Nichols, Ashley Thomas, Aarian Tipton and Amanda Ventre all finished their collegiate careers this year.
"For our season to continue is a testament in and of itself," said Track & Field Coach Marlo Mincey. "I want us to be in the mix until the final NCAA meet is compete and I am proud of what we have done from last season to this season and of the fact that we're still competing."
Several Eagles will compete this weekend and next in efforts to improve their marks for the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Preliminary meet at the end of this month.
