Georgia Tech track & field for Georgia Tech Invitational

Five Eagles Travel to Georgia Tech Invitational Friday

Two-day meet is final opportunity to improve marks for NCAA East Region Preliminary

STATESBORO, Ga. – With the final date for performances to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Regional Preliminary on Sunday, Georgia Southern will send five Eagles to the Georgia Tech Invitational this Friday-Saturday, May 16-17. Members of Georgia Southern's champion and record-setting 4X100m Relay team, Alyssa Felton, Jasmin Walker, Aarian Tipton and Jordan Fordham, and sophomore Ashleigh Rasheed, will compete in five total events in Atlanta. The schedule and heat sheets can be found here: http://www.ramblinwreck.com/sports/m-track/spec-rel/geot-mw-track-meet-info.html. Live stats will be available at deltatiming.com.

"We have been training, so this meet is really for us to be in completion mode, and if we better our marks or stay consistent, I'll be happy," said Head Track and Field Coach Marlo Mincey. "Now after finals are over, we have been able to get out and practice every day and we have looked a lot better. This is our first relay in three weeks, we've gotten another cycle of training in and  we're really doing this to sharpen up and get ready for the NCAAs."

All four members of the 4X100m Relay team will compete in the 100m individual race Friday night with trials beginning at 6:25 p.m. with Jasmin Walker going straight to the Long Jump pit afterward for that 7 p.m. start. A five-time conference champion (indoor and outdoor), she is looking to improve upon her personal best 6.12 mark at the SoCon Outdoor Championships last month. Felton starts off the events for the Eagles in the 100m Hurdles at 5:30 p.m. She posted the Eagles' top time of the season at 14.33, good for seventh in program history.

Saturday, the 4x100m Relay team steps to the line at 1 p.m. Ashleigh Rasheed, who improved her distance in the Triple Jump last weekend at the Georgia Invitational, looks to top that mark at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the south jumps pit. Her wind-aided mark in Athens at the Specs Town facility could not be considered for a personal best due to the +2.2 wind velocity.
