Women's Tennis Drops 4-0 to Chattanooga in SoCon Quarterfinals

CHATTANOOGA, TN.- Georgia Southern women's tennis ended their season yesterday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Southern Conference Championships. The Eagles were defeated by University of Tennessee Chattanooga, 4-0. GSU entered the championship as the 6th seed with a 4-5 regular season record.

The Mocs secured the doubles point early on. Stephanie Woods and Giulia Riepe were defeated by Kayla Jones and Katie Polk in the second doubles position, 8-2. Seniors Paola Garrido and Caitlin Kitchen fell to Alexa Flynn and Laylene Chadwell at No. 1, 8-4.

The Mocs earned their second point when Alexa Flynn took down Daria Vasekina at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. UTC's Kayla Jones defeated Paola Garrido, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1. In the 4th singles position, Stephanie Woods was beat by Kelsey Coots, 6-2, 6-1. Jordana Klein was up 6-4 against Kaylene Chadwell when the match was decided. Giulia Riepe lost her first set to Claire Mulyadi, 6-3, and was down in the second set 1-3 at the end of the match. Mary Phillips Smith dropped her first set to Katie Polk, 6-1, and was down 1-3 when the match was called.
