Palmetto Classic 3-7-2014

Henzler’s Career-Best in Hammer Throw Ranks Fifth All-Time

Eagles complete several events at rainy Palmetto Classic

MT. PLEASANT, S.C.Stephanne Henzler not only smashed her personal best in the Hammer Throw, but landed herself in fifth place all-time in the Georgia Southern record book with a 47.51m (155'10") distance. Rainy and cool weather dampened the events at the Palmetto Classic Friday, March 7th, with the Eagles competing in as many events as possible.

"I thought we did the best we could in the conditions at the meet," said Eagle Track and Field Coach Marlo Mincey. "Early March weather sometimes doesn't cooperate with outdoor track meets, but I was happy with the performances we were able to get in before the weather turned more severe. We're very proud of what Stephanie accomplished today and know there are more great efforts to come."

Henzler, who transferred to Georgia Southern last fall, added 22 feet to her personal record after reaching a mark of 40.79m (133'10") at the 2013 New York State Collegiate Track Conference. In other field events, Brianna Charles posted the top finish for Georgia Southern Friday with second place in the Long Jump while Keyanna Harris tied for third in the High Jump.

Three Eagles, Alyssa Felton, Dana Edwards and Lauren Toomer, placed in the top 10 of the 100m Hurdles. Felton led the group as she competed in her first career 100m Hurdles event. Both Edwards and Toomer were not far off from personal best times considering it was the opening meet of the outdoor season.
