Box Score
STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern Softball cruised past Tennessee State to win the Eagle Classic Championship on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles took the 3-0 win over the Tigers to improve to 4-1 in the tournament, tied with Troy. The Eagles took the tiebreaker with a +19 runs differential to Troy's +10 mark.

"It was a good weekend for us to get the tournament win," said Head Coach Annie Smith. We played good defense, had some timely hitting and we did some good things in the pitching circle. I was happy that everyone contributed to the team victories."

With the win the Eagles improve to 13-5 in one of the best starts in program history. Tennessee State falls to 6-14 on the year.

Kourtny Thomas reached in each of her first two at bats, getting on base on an error and a single. She was stranded, however, on second base both times. It was a home run from Lexi Allen in the fifth inning that gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, Georgia Southern tacked on two more runs on Shelby Morrill's two RBI triple to centerfield.

Those runs were enough for starting pitcher Sarah Purvis who worked around two Tiger hits for the shutout win to improve to 6-2 on the season. She struck out 12 batters, matching her season-high which was set on Saturday against Troy. She has now fanned double-digit batters in 15 career games.

Georgia Southern travels to Kennesaw State for the first midweek game of the season on Wednesday night. The Eagles and Owls get underway from 6 p.m. on the outskirts of the Capitol City.
