STATESBORO, GA.- Georgia Southern women's tennis dominated Appalachian State 6-0 yesterday at the Wallis Tennis Center. The Eagles earned back-to-back SoCon wins this weekend, making them 2-4 in conference and 6-8 overall.

"I was so proud of the way the team competed this weekend," said head coach Amy Bonner. "We started out strong in doubles on Saturday and never looked back. Today the team kept that same positive energy and clinched the match during singles play today for a big win."

Singles play preceded doubles because of a threat of rain, and the Eagles were able to cinch all 6 wins. At the No. 1 singles spot, Paola Garrido defeated Clare Cox, 6-3, 6-4. Jordana Klein beat Mackenzie LaSure 6-0, 6-2 in the second spot. Stephanie Woods secured the third point for the Eagles with a win over Gabrielle Wreder in the 4th singles position, 6-2, 7-6(5). Newcomer Daria Vasekina clinched the fourth win in the No. 3 spot over Brianna Armellino, 6-4, 6-4. Mary Phillips Smith overcame Olivia Isbey at No. 6 singles, 7-6(3), 1-6, 10-6. The sixth and final point for the Eagles came from Giulia Riepe, who played in the No. 5 spot, defeating Jessica Thaggard, 6-4, 7-5.

Doubles was unfinished due to rain, but the Eagles earned the win with singles play.

The Eagles return to action on Thursday, March 20th, against University of Massachusetts starting at 11am in Charleston, S.C. at LTP Tennis Club.
