McFarlane Breaks Own Record for Top 800m Time in Program History

Eagle 4x400m Relay closes in on record with second-best time Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sherril McFarlane broke Georgia Southern's record in the 800m race with a 2:10.56 time Saturday, taking more than two seconds off her previous personal best at the Samford Multi & Invitational. She broke the Eagle record at the beginning of January, at the same venue, the Birmingham Crossplex, and racked up her second victory in this event and third overall for 2013-14.

McFarlane also ran the second leg of Georgia Southern's 4X400m Relay with Dana Edwards (1), Sadia Yansenah (3) and Asha Stegall for the second-best time in program history at 3:47.93.

"We performed well this weekend and ran perfectly," said Head Coach Marlo Mincey. "There are a couple of things we want to work on, but everything is coming together at the right time."

All three Georgia Southern entrants in the 400m set personal bests on Saturday with freshman Stegall posting the top finish at 11th on a 56.93. Stegall's time was the second-best for the Eagles this season. Dana Edwards took a full second of her previous best (58.67) and freshman Yasenah ran her best with a 59.47.

Breaking the 12 meter barrier in the Triple Jump for the first time in her career, sophomore Ashleigh Rasheed recorded a distance of 12.09m/39'8". That placed her seventh overall at the meet, but could put her at the top of the Southern Conference performances list.

Sophomore Keyanna Harris reached the 1.61m/5'3.25" mark in the High Jump, her best effort of the 2013-14 season and Camryn Coleman reached her personal best and then some in the Long Jump.

"We are getting to be the program we know we can be," MIncey said after Saturday's events. "That's always a collective program goal, to set goals, achieve them and then set new, higher goals."

The Eagles head to the JDL Fast Track next weekend, Friday-Saturday, February 14-15th as a preview for their final Southern Conference Indoor Championships March 1st- 2nd.
