WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sherril McFarlane put her name alongside another Georgia Southern record, this time on the Mile Run with a time of 5:06.51 at the JDL Fast Track Saturday. McFarlane took more than a full second off the previous Eagle record which was set in 2005 by Brittney Jett (Swick). The graduate student from Brooklyn, N.Y., trimmed more than three seconds off her performance last month at the Niswonger Invitational.
"Today's meet gave us the opportunity to fine tune some of our technical events as we head into championships," said Head Track Coach Marlo Mincey. "This meet gave us a lot of confidence as we get ready for the conference meet, especially in the middle distance and the distance events where we stepped up. Overall, it was very helpful for us to compete at the venue where we'll be in a couple of weeks and face some high-level teams."
Freshman
Kelsey Arnold came very close to setting the Georgia Southern Weight Throw record, moving her 16.78m (55'0.75") mark up to second all-time. She added more than two feet to her previous best set in January.
The Eagles posted 10 personal bests and tied another in the condensed one-day meet in Winston-Salem. Georgia Southern had four top-five finishes and three Eagles,
Jasmin Walker,
Aarian Tipton and
Alyssa Felton placed in the top eight in the 200m Dash. In addition to her Mile record, McFarlane was the only non-ACC competitor to finish in the top seven of the 800m Run.
Walker posted two personal bests, one in the in the 60m Dash with a time of 7.60 for fourth all-time on the Georgia Southern list. She also had the top distance of the season in the Long Jump, finishing second at the meet with a 5.83m (19'1.50"), good for eighth all-time on the Georgia Southern list.
Also with two personal bests on the day,
