STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern volleyball coach Dustin Wood announced today that Hannah Braun (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch), Joscelin Morrow (Baiting Hollow, N.Y./Riverhead), Lauren Reichard (York, Pa./Eastern York) and Stephanie Spencer (North Canton, Ohio/Jackson) will attend Georgia Southern and compete for the Eagles, beginning in the 2015 season.
"I think we are bringing in some outstanding skill and size in this class, and we are very happy with this class from top to bottom," said Georgia Southern coach Dustin Wood. "They all come from winning programs, all have outstanding work ethic and are as competitive as a group that you will find, which will make our program stronger next year and into the future. This group has a bright future here at Georgia Southern."
Hannah Braun, 6-0, OH, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch/FRVBC 18 Black
First-team all-league at Highlands Ranch High School in 2014 after tallying 166 kills and 65 blocks and hitting .201… Second-team all-league as a middle in 2013… Helped lead Falcons to state playoffs in 2012 and 2014… Scholar Athlete from 2012-14.
Wood on Braun: "Hannah comes to us from Front Range VBC in Colorado. She has played middle most of her career but is in the transition to play outside hitter right now. She has the skill and high ceiling above 10-foot to make the transition. We are very excited about her athleticism and volleyball skill set. She will help to solidify our depth at outside hitter next year, and her development is going to be exciting to watch."
Joscelin Morrow, 5-3, L/DS, Baiting Hollow, N.Y./Riverhead/Long Island Blaze
Named All-Suffolk County in 2012 and 2013, Rookie of the Year in 2012 and Defensive Player of the Year in 2013… Had 313 digs, 77 assists, 61 kills and 24 aces as a senior and 443 digs, 46 aces and 23 kills as a junior… Posted 933 digs in three seasons and owns school record for digs in a match with 41… Awarded "Best Digger" in 2014 at the Capitol Hill Classic… Also competed in softball.
Wood on Morrow: "Joscelin brings a wealth of experience to our back row defense. She will be competing right away to show what she can do for our program. Her attitude, technique and structure are exactly what we are looking for in her serve receive and defense. She has spent time with the USA High Performance Program, which will help her make the adjustment to the speed of the college game."
Lauren Reichard, 6-0, M, Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York/Yorktowne Volleyball Club
Three-time first-team all-county… First-team all-state in 2013 and 2014… three-time first-team all-district… Had 201 kills, 74 blocks, 123 digs and 11 aces as a senior at Eastern York… Owns school single-match record with 37 kills and 19 blocks… Also an all-state, all-county and all-district in softball… Mother, Jen, was an outside hitter at Eastern Kentucky.
Wood on Reichard: "Lauren comes from a volleyball family. Her mom played at the national level and she has been around the game since she was very little. Lauren is coming in from a decorated high school and club career. She understands the game more than any typical freshman coming into a program. We are very high on Lauren and her future contributions to this program. She is a very dynamic middle who is going to turn some heads next year. She is well above 10-feet and will only continue to get stronger and more dynamic when she gets here."
Stephanie Spencer, 6-1, OH, North Canton, Ohio/Jackson/Ohio Extreme
Third-team all-state while leading team to state championship game in 2014… Two-time first-team all-district, all-county and all-league at Jackson… Second-team all-league and all-county in helping Jackson to state championship in 2012… Notched 400 kills, 180 digs, 36 blocks and 32 aces as a senior… Logged over 1,000 kills in three seasons at Jackson… Club team, Ohio Extreme, finished 28th in Open Division at 2013 Nationals… Two-time MVP of the Power League Tournament… Also lettered in softball… Mother, Lisa, was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball at Ohio University.
Wood on Spencer: "Stephanie's strength and jumping ability have certainly provided her with the tools to be a great outside hitter here. She is above the 10-foot ceiling. You add her size to the mix and she has everything you need to be successful at this level. What impressed me was her ability to pass and swing. We are very excited to utilize her in the back row with our offensive system. She comes from a great background and works very hard."
Georgia Southern returns four starters and 11 letterwinners from the 2014 team.
