STATESBORO, Ga. – Megan Chevalier collected a match-high 16 kills, and Georgia Southern hit a season-high .396 to post a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-23) Sun Belt Conference volleyball victory over Troy Friday night.

Jamie DeRatt added 11 kills, nine digs and two blocks for the Eagles (2-13, 2-4), while Cathrine Murray finished with 10 kills and seven digs. Kym Coley posted nine kills and four blocks, and Kat Minnerly tallied 43 assists, seven digs and two blocks.

Marija Zelenovic finished with 12 kills, seven digs and two blocks for Troy (9-9, 1-5), and Symone Shaw added 10 kills and two blocks.

"We had a good week of practice and worked on moving the ball around, and I think we learned a lot," said Georgia Southern coach Dustin Wood. "We had seven or eight great players tonight, and they all came to play. Megan had a career night - I think it's clicking with her - and Cathrine played extremely well too."

Chevalier had two kills and Coley added a third as the Eagles broke a 15-15 tie with three straight points in the first set. Leading 19-16, Georgia Southern finished the set with a 6-2 spurt, keyed by two kills from Murray.

The second set was very similar with the Eagles scoring four in a row to push a 15-14 lead to 19-14 with the help of kills by Murray and Chevalier, and the margin never fell below four points the rest of the way.

Murray and DeRatt got consecutive kills to help the Eagles open a 19-17 advantage in the third set. With Georgia Southern leading 23-21, Murray got a kill to make it set point and after an Eagle ball-handling error and a Troy block, DeRatt sealed the win with a kill.

The Eagles play host to UALR Sunday, Oct. 5, at noon at Statesboro High. Admission to the match is free.
