Volleyball Sweeps Savannah State for Fourth Straight Win

STATESBORO, Ga. – Kym Coley notched 15 kills and hit .684 for the match, and Georgia Southern served 11 aces as a team to earn a 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-12) non-conference volleyball victory over Savannah State Tuesday night in Hanner Fieldhouse.

Freshman Ashley Jones had a team-high four aces to go along with four kills, while classmate Cathrine Murray finished with seven kills, 10 digs, three aces and two blocks for Georgia Southern (6-15).

Coley had just two hitting errors on the night, tallied her 15 kills in 19 swings and added four blocks. Avery Stephens recorded 10 digs and an ace, and Kat Minnerly collected 36 assists.

Justice Dilworth led Savannah State (4-20) with four kills, and Alexis Washington finished with seven digs.

Georgia Southern hit a season high .419 while holding the Tigers to an .030 hitting percentage. The Eagles, who trailed just once in the match, had nine errors in 74 swings in winning their fourth consecutive contest.

It was the final non-conference match of the season for Georgia Southern, which played three top-20 teams and six opponents from Power-5 conferences in its non-league slate.

"We're starting to gain some confidence after the brutal non-conference schedule we played," said Georgia Southern coach Dustin Wood. "To see the improvement in terms of wins helps give them more confidence as we head to Texas this weekend and through the rest of our schedule."

The Eagles are back on the road for a pair of Sun Belt matches this weekend. Georgia Southern will take on UT Arlington Friday and Texas State Saturday.
