NEW ORLEANS – Kat Minnerly and
Megan Chevalier have earned weekly volleyball honors from the Sun Belt Conference, the league announced today. Minnerly was named the league's Setter of the Week, while Chevalier was named the Freshman of the Week.
Minnerly averaged 11.57 assists and 3.14 digs per set as the Eagles picked up victories against UL Monroe and UL Lafayette in Hanner Fieldhouse. The junior tallied 50 assists, 11 digs and three service aces against UL Lafayette. Â It was the ninth time in her career she has posted 50 or more assists. Minnerly also collected 31 assists and 11 digs in a three-set victory over UL Monroe and ranks third in the conference with 10.35 assists per set this season.
Chevalier averaged 3.29 kills and 0.29 blocks a set while hitting .280 for the week. The redshirt freshman posted nine kills, an assist and a dig in the three-set win over the Warhawks and added 14 kills and two blocks while hitting .370 in the win over the Cajuns.
Georgia Southern has won six straight and 15 of their last 16 matches in Hanner Fieldhouse. The Eagles cap a three-game homestand against Savannah State in their annual Dig Pink Match Tuesday in Hanner Fieldhouse. First serve is set for 6 p.m.Â
The Zeta Tau Alpha sorority has partnered with Georgia Southern Athletics to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. Pink Georgia Southern wristbands are available for $5 from the Georgia Southern Athletic Marketing Office. Proceeds will benefit the Side-Out Foundation, which in turn awards grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing patient services to breast cancer patients and their families. Fans can also donate online to Georgia Southern's Dig Pink event.
