STATESBORO, Ga. – In the last road contest of the fall season, head coach Nick Zieziula will call upon senior Kyle Hoffman and junior Ristomatti Lanne to represent the Eagles at the ITA Regional Championships. This year's event, hosted by the University of Georgia at the Dog Magill Tennis Complex, features student-athletes from 15 schools.
The field consists of 64 singles competitors and 64 doubles tandems from Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Mercer, Miami, North Florida, South Florida, Stetson and UCF.
The duo of Hoffman and Lanne will automatically advance to the round of 32 in doubles action as they received a first-round bye. Their first match is slated for 9 a.m. on Friday where they will play the winner from the Georgia State/Kennesaw State match-up.
"Kyle and Rise got to compete together in the opening tournament at UNCW. They played well but lost two very tight matches where we had the lead early. We made a few small tactical adjustments and they have been working well together in practice," said Zieziula. "It will be exciting to see them get back and competing together this weekend and see if we can implement what we have done in practice into our matches."
In singles, Lanne will take to the court on Friday at 2 p.m. against University of Central Florida's Reece Acree. Hoffman will get underway just 90 minutes later as he is set to square off against Marco Nunez from Florida State University.
Zieziula is very pleased with the level of determination shown in preparation for singles. "They have been very diligent over the last few weeks of practice and have really focused on working on their specific game plans. We've put in some good work since our last competition opportunities and worked on a few areas where opponents were able to hurt us."
