Fordham and Stegall Grab Wins at Bob Pollack Classic Friday

Eagles post 13 personal bests on first day at Clemson

STATESBORO, Ga. --  Freshman Asha Stegall posted the fifth-best time in Georgia Southern history with a 57.10 time in the 400m Dash on the first day of competition at the Bob Pollack Classic at Clemson. Stegall's personal best in the race earned her a first-place finish. Overall on Friday, January 31st, the Eagles set 13 personal bests with Jordan Fordham claiming a top finish in the 60m Dash with a 7.70, improving on her 7.70 from earlier in the day.

"We had wins today, several finishes in the top three and we were up against some high competition," said Georgia Southern Track and Field Coach Marlo Mincey. "In our throwing events, the ring at Clemson allows for fast spins, it takes some getting used to, but we came away with top-20 performances."

Fordham had the best time of the season in the 200m Dash with a 25.36, just .12 away from breaking into the Georgia Southern all-time top five in that event. In the 60m Hurdles, Lauren Toomer cranked it up in the finals and took .16 seconds off her preliminary time for a second-place finish with a 9.10. Teammate Dana Edwards went 9.17 in the early round, then broke that personal best again with a 9.14 in the finals for third place.

The Eagles posted solid times for personal bests in the 800m with Cherrelle King and Leigha Long both setting standards in that race.

The personal records were not limited to only those on the track. Ashleigh Rasheed, in her first Pentathlon of the season set her personal best in the Long Jump (5.29m/17-4.25) and tied her PR in the High Jump (1.55/5-1) as part of the composite event.

Senior Ashley Thomas continued to move her marks in the weight throw with a 15.22m distance, just shy of 50 feet. Kelsey Arnold flirted with the 16 meter mark in the weight throw Friday after setting a personal best in the Eagles' last competition. Taylor Johnson's first Long Jump of the season resulted in a personal best for the sophomore.

More than 20 teams are competing at the Clemson Indoor Complex this weekend with 350 student-athletes competing on the women's side. Several ACC teams are in attendance with nearby Western Carolina also representing the Southern Conference.
