Volleyball Travels to Magnolia Invitational This Weekend

For Openers
The Georgia Southern volleyball team will face three teams in the Magnolia Invitational at Ole Miss this weekend.  The Eagles will begin the tournament by playing against the Red Wolves of Arkansas State Friday at 1:30 p.m. and also face Ole Miss at 7:30 p.m.  GSU will take on the Kennesaw State Owls Saturday at 11 a.m. in its last game of the tournament.

Series Records
The matches at the Magnolia Invitational will be the Eagles' first meetings against Arkansas State and Ole Miss.  Arkansas State will be the third Sun Belt Conference team the Eagles have played this season. The Eagles won 3-1 against South Alabama last Saturday, but lost their match at Troy Monday 3-0. The Eagles last met Kennesaw State University in 2007 and lead the series 1-0.

Award Winners
Three Eagles have received honors so far this season. Jamie DeRatt was named the MVP at the Jaguar Invitational and Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Kym Coley was named all-tournament at the Jaguar Invitational and the SoCon Student Athlete of the Week. Katalin Minnerly was named all-tournament at the Jaguar Invite.

Next Up
The Eagles will play their first home match of the season against the University of Georgia Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. There will be a #TrueBlue Tailgate for students in the Hanner Fieldhouse parking lot at 4 p.m., where students will have their first opportunity to pick up football tickets for the Georgia Southern vs. Florida game in November. The volleyball match against Georgia opens an 11-match homestand for the Eagles, which includes two home tournaments - the SpringhillSuites Invitational and Bash in the Boro - as well as the Eagles' first four SoCon games.
