Eagles back at home for first time in 2013 regular season
STATESBORO, Ga. – With two weeks spent on the road, Georgia Southern Women's Soccer returns home this weekend for a Friday night match against Stetson at Eagle Field in the Erk Russell Athletic Park. Friday's home opener starts at 7 p.m. under the lights on the home turf.
Friday's match can be seen live on GS All-Access from GSEagles.com. Fans can now purchase a subscription to the premium video package which includes exclusive weekly interviews, special features, live games in both video and audio formats and game archives you can't get anywhere else.
Last time out, Georgia Southern had High Point handled through halftime, but an unexpected third party, Mother Nature, intervened to cancel the match. Jennifer Wittick scored what looked to be the winning goal, but lightning in the 47th minute ended the match with no make-up date set. The goal was erased and the Eagles enter the weekend at 0-3-0 on the campaign.
Sydnie Van Curen leads the Eagles in scoring with one goal this year. She tallied that effort in the season opener at Indiana State.
Setson enters the weekend with a balanced 1-1-1 overall record with all three matches played at home. The Hatters opened the season with a 0-0 draw to Embry-Riddle before defeating Troy, 2-1 in overtime on August 25th. Stetson has had a week to rest following a 2-0 loss to Florida International last Friday night in DeLand.
Kait Jones and Carmen Bernecker each have one goal to pace the Stetson offense. Goalkeeper Victoria Troccoli is carrying a 0.87 goals against average and has made 10 saves against 36 total shots in her three outings this season.
The Eagles get the rest of the weekend off and will begin preparations for a pair of home games next weekend against Jacksonville and Charleston Southern.
