Women’s Soccer Brings Home a Victory from Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TN.- Georgia Southern women's soccer conquered Chattanooga on Sunday at the Mocs home field 2-1. The Eagles were aggressive on offense, outshooting the Mocs 21 to 9. With 11 shots on goal, Alex Murphy and Nora El-Shami were able tally one goal each.
Coach Brian Dunleavy said, "Today was always going to be a challenge because of the fatigue factor. We played 110 minutes of exhausting soccer on Friday night, so we knew we would be in for a tough day. We came out flat and played a really poor first half, which was very disappointing. In the second half we were dominant in all facets of the game, and scored a couple of excellent goals. The team has four well deserved points, we just need to find a little more consistency and keep on fighting."
The Mocs notched a point on the scoreboard at early on in the game at 12 minutes, slipping the ball past Eagles' goalkeeper, Molly Williams. The Eagles retaliated by continuing to strike, but were unable to equalize in the first half.
Entering the second half, the Eagles trailed Chattanooga 1-0. At the 50 minute mark, Georgia Southern leveled out the scoreboard with Alex Murphy shooting the ball past Mocs' goalkeeper Taylor Mangrum, assisted by Cori Dulmage.
Nearing the end of the game at the 81 minute mark, Nora El-Shami (assisted by Jennifer Wittick) scored her first goal of the season and the game winning goal, giving the Eagles the lead 2-0.
The Eagles continued to attack, and were able to reduce the Mocs to only 5 shots on goal.
The next competition for the Eagles is Appalachian State on Friday, October 4th at 7pm at Erk Park, followed by Western Carolina on Sunday, October 6th at 2pm.
