STATESBORO, Ga.- Georgia Southern women's soccer (2-5-2) competes in their first home SoCon games this weekend at Erk Park. Friday night at 7pm the Eagles take on Appalachian State's Mountianeers, and on Sunday afternoon at 2pm, Western Carolina's Catamounts.
Last time out, the Eagles dominated over Chattanooga 2-1. Alex Murphy and Nora El-Shami tallied one goal each, with assists by Cori Dulmage and Jennifer Wittick. Coach Brian Dunleavy mentioned after last week's games that the Eagles were fatigued going into their game against Chattanooga, a result of double overtime with Samford last Friday. But the Eagles were successful, and after a week of rest and practice they are ready for the tough competition this weekend.
The Mountianeers post a 3-4-2 overall record this season. Previously against Appalachian State, the Eagles were defeated 1-0. The Mountianeers scored early in the first half, and the Eagles were unable to create many opportunities to shoot. The Eagles were outshot in the second half 4-8.
Western Carolina are 5-4-1 on the season, coming off of a loss against UNC Greensboro. Last time the Eagles took on the Catamounts, they gained a "W" on their record, scoring late in the game to finish 2-1. Neither team was able to score in the first half. The teams exchanged goals in the 64th and 67th minutes, followed by the game-winning goal from Sydnie Van Curen at the 74th minute mark.
