ATHENS, GA- The Eagles got off to a slow start on Friday, but were able to secure three singles wins on Saturday. Participating players include Nico De Groof, Christian Kerrigan, Oliver Webb, Rayane Djouad, Albert Codina Sala, and Rafael Racy.
Rayane Djouad defeated College of Charleston's Zach Lewis 6-3, 6-4. Oliver Webb earned a win over Matt Browne of Furman 6-7(2), 6-4, 1-0(5). Nico DeGroof received his first college win by defeating Carson Greve of Liberty 6-2, 6-1.
Djouad and Webb earned a first round win over Stetson before falling to the number two team in the country (Hernus Pieters/Ben Wagland of Georgia) 8-4.
"Overall, our results were disappointing on the weekend," head coach Nick Zieziula said. "As a whole we let too many leads slip away and we didn't convert enough break points to earn more wins. I was proud of the way we competed and that we remained focused on the goals that we have worked on over the last weeks of practice, which is a big positive, so we are developing and improving and that is the main goal in the fall season."
The Eagles next contest is this weekend (September 20-22) at the Georgia State Invitational in Atlanta, GA.
