Georgia Southern Volleyball Tournament Set for this Weekend

Georgia Southern Volleyball Tournament
Location: Statesboro, Ga. – Hanner Fieldhouse
Host: Georgia Southern
Dates: Sept. 13-14
Teams: Georgia Southern (6-2), High Point (3-4), North Dakota State (0-6), Oral Roberts (6-1).

For Openers
The Eagles continue an 11-match homestand with three contests in the Georgia Southern Volleyball Tournament in Hanner Fieldhouse this weekend. Georgia Southern hosts High Point Friday night at 7 p.m., North Dakota State Saturday at noon and Oral Roberts Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. Georgia Southern is coming off a 3-0 loss to Georgia Tuesday in Hanner Fieldhouse and enters the tournament with a 6-2 record.

Promotions
The first 100 people into Friday night's match featuring the Eagles get free Chick-Fil-A Sandwiches, and the Net Squad (band) will be in attendance. Saturday's noon contest is Girl Scout Day, and all girl scouts who have the flyer or are dressed in their uniform gain free admission.  

Tourney Titles
The Eagles have won both tournaments they have participated in this season. Georgia Southern won the Jaguar Invitational at South Alabama Aug. 31, and the Magnolia Invitational at Ole Miss last weekend. The Eagles last won two tourneys in a season in 2010, when they went 3-0 at the Southern Conference Tournament and 4-0 at the SpringHill Suites Invitational in Statesboro.

Series Records
The Eagles are 1-0 against High Point with their lone meeting against the Panthers coming in 2003, a 3-0 win in High Point's Tournament. Georgia Southern has never played North Dakota State or Oral Roberts in volleyball.

Award Winners
Jamie DeRatt was named the MVP at the Jaguar Invitational at South Alabama and Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 2. Nicole Jeschelnik was named MVP of the Magnolia Invitational at Ole Miss. Crysten Curry was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 9.

Kym Coley was named all-tournament at the Jaguar Invitational and the Magnolia Invitational and the SoCon Student Athlete of the Week Sept. 4. Katalin Minnerly was named all-tournament at the Jaguar Invite, and Alexandra Beecher earned all-tourney honors at the Magnolia Invite.

Next Up
The Eagles host the Bash in the Boro next weekend with six matches taking place in Hanner Fieldhouse. Georgia Southern will be in action against Central Michigan at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, and hosts Jackson State (noon) and Charleston Southern (7 p.m.) Saturday, Sept. 21.
