MOBILE, Ala. – Jamie DeRatt posted 10 kills and five digs and the Eagles tallied eight team blocks and held Tennessee State to an .057 hitting percentage in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-10) volleyball victory over the Tigers Saturday morning at the Jaguar Invitational.
 
Georgia Southern (2-0) finishes its tournament schedule with an 8 p.m. (EST) contest against host South Alabama tonight.
 
Kym Coley recorded six kills on seven swings and added two blocks, while Katie Bange registered seven kills. Crysten Curry, Nicole Jeschelnik and Enjoli Johnson each had two blocks, and Lauren LaRoque served up three of the Eagles' nine aces.
 
Naomi Wells led the Tigers (0-2) with nine kills, and Shuantia Carr posted six.
 
The Eagles trailed 17-15 in the first set but scored five straight points during DeRatt's serve to open a 21-17 lead. With GSU ahead 23-19, Coley and DeRatt finished off the set with kills off Katalin Minnerly assists.
 
Georgia Southern never trailed in the second set and rattled off a 7-2 run, with three kills by DeRatt, to turn a three-point margin into a 15-7 cushion. After falling behind 1-0 in the third set, the Eagles used a 15-2 spurt to take control. The margin never dwindled below 10 points the rest of the way.
