NORMAN, Okla. – Georgia Southern assistant golf coach Carter Collins has been named a semifinalist for the Jan Strickland Award presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf, given by the Golf Coaches Association of America to the assistant coach who has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom.
It's the second consecutive season Collins has been named a semifinalist for the honor. The seven other semifinalists are Florida's John Handrigan, Chris Hill of Houston, Northwestern's David Inglis, Brian Kortan of New Mexico, Ryan Murphy of Texas, Stanford's Phil Rowe, Casey VanDamme of Tennesee and Wake Forest's Daniel Walters.
The Strickland Award recipient will have the opportunity to further his professional development by receiving an invitation to the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Kingdom in Carlsbad, Calif. TaylorMade-adidas Golf has sponsored the Strickland Award since its inception in 2003.
"Although it's an individual award I've been named a semifinalist for, I'm only in this position because of what the team has been able to accomplish," said Collins. "Win or lose, I hope this process will be a positive reflection on the program."
Georgia Southern has won three tournament titles in 2012-13 and finished in the top-5 in five tournaments. The Eagles return to action at the Southern Conference Championships April 21-23.
