SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern women's soccer midfielder Nora El-Shami picked up second team All-Southern Conference honors after a vote of the league's head coaches. As a freshman in 2012, Nora was picked to the SoCon All-Freshman Team.
"This individual achievement is well deserved," said Head Coach Brian Dunleavy. "She is not only an excellent player, but also a fantastic person all around. Nora is someone the entire team looks up to; we are all very proud of her for picking up her second SoCon Award."
Georgia Southern's co-leading goalscorer this season, El-Shami had four goals and six assists this season. She posted game-winning goals against UNCG and Chattanooga. On October 10th, Nora wrote her name in the Georgia Southern record books with three assists against Francis Marion. She was the first Eagle in over a decade to accomplish the feat.
"This season she was such an attacking threat because she was so dynamic," added Dunleavy. "Nora was dangerous on free kicks around the box, an outstanding passer, and had the ability to score from anywhere within 30 yards of goal. In her just her sophomore season, she has accomplished a lot, and we are looking forward to a bright future for her."
