STATESBORO, Ga. – "By the Numbers" spotlights each week some of the interesting statistics, rankings and milestones as they relate to the Georgia Southern Football program.

Number of seasons the Eagles have played both the FBS and FCS national champions, most recently in 2011 when Georgia Southern met both Alabama and North Dakota State. The first time was in 1996 when the Eagles played eventual title winners Florida and Marshall in back-to-back weeks after a season-opening win over South Caroilna State.

Brothers of Georgia Southern Football student-athletes who played football for the Florida Gators. Lester Norwood, brother of current Eagle quarterback Jerick McKinnon, won four letters as a Gator safety from 1998-2002. Mike Peterson, brother of the Eagles' Adrian Peterson, played for Steve Spurrier from 1995-98. Stan (Georgia Southern longsnapper) and Steve (Florida linebacker) Stipe were on opposite sidelines when the two teams played in 1986.

Number of rushing touchdowns by redshirt freshman running back Irving Huggins – all two-yard bursts into the endzone – against Elon. The last Eagle to score three rushing touchdowns in a single game was William Banks against St. Francis (Pa.) on September 7, 2013. The last first-year player to have three rushing TDs in a game was Jayson Foster vs. Johnson C. Smith in 2004.

Yards per rush by the Eagles against the Phoenix on Saturday with 398 yards on 52 carries for the second-highest average per attempt this season. Georgia Southern averaged 8.5 yards per carry against Savannah State in the opener. The 398 rushing yards total is the second highest of the year and the 52 rushing attempts rank as the second-lowest total of the year.

Number of Eagles who hail from the state of Florida, including brothers Kurt and Kyle Oehlbeck whose family moved to Gainesville from New York state. Matt Breida, Luke Cherry, Deonte Dempsey, Matt Dobson, Deshawntee Gallon, Vegas Harley, Tyrail Hawkins, Irving Huggins, Javonte Martin, Javon Mention, Favian Upshaw and Ezayi Youyoute are all Floridians. Tray Butler and DeVante Robinson were both born in Miami, but moved to Georgia.
