JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Georgia Southern Track and Field team competed in six more events on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the East Tennessee State Niswonger Invitational on Saturday. On the final day of the two-day event, the Eagles finished in the top 10 of every single event but one amongst a field of 60 teams.
Sophomore Jasmine Walker continued her strong college career, finishing sixth in the Long Jump (5.58m). Freshman Alyssa Felton also garnered a top 10 finish in the Long Jump, leaping 5.52m for a seventh place finish. The rookie improved her previous best, set at the Clemson Orange and Purple Winter Classic back in December, by more than 20 centimeters.
Three Eagles came back in action after qualifying for the finals in their respective events yesterday. Senior Ebony Carter finished fifth in the 60m Dash (7.72), sophomore Kimberly Thomas finished fifth in the 400m Dash (59.14) and Jasmine Billings crossed the line second in the consolidation finals for an overall eighth place finish in the 60m Hurdles (9.04).
A week from now, the Eagles travel to Gainesville, Fla. to continue their indoor season at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 26.
