Volleyball Downs The Citadel 3-0

STATESBORO, Ga. – Kym Coley recorded 12 kills, and Kayla Henderson added 11 as Georgia Southern hit .389 as a team to sweep The Citadel 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-13) in Southern Conference volleyball action Friday evening in Hanner Fieldhouse. It was the fifth straight win for the Eagles (12-5, 3-0 SoCon).
Moriah Bellissimo posted eight digs, surpassing 1,000 for her Georgia Southern career, to go along with six kills and four blocks.
"Moriah has done a great job for us for four years, and it's nice to see her get some recognition for what she's done," said head coach Chad Callihan. "We talk about leaving the program in a better place, and all of our seniors have contributed to elevating our program."
Meredith Paskert also posted seven kills for the Eagles, and Kate Van Dyke added five kills and 33 assists. Alexandra Beecher recorded a match-high 21 digs.
Rachael Farrell led The Citadel (2-15, 0-3 SoCon) with eight kills.
The Eagles tallied 49 kills on 95 swings while holding the Bulldogs to an .067 hitting percentage as a team. The Eagles posted six team blocks as Crysten Curry and Coley had three each. Curry also added five kills and two digs.
The victory for Georgia Southern sets up a showdown of the two undefeated teams in the SoCon South Division as the Eagles host College of Charleston in Hanner Fieldhouse tomorrow. Game time is set for 1 p.m., and tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 12-and-under.
