Beecher Named SoCon Volleyball Freshman of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern's Alexandra Beecher has been named the Southern Conference volleyball Freshman of the Week, the league announced today.
It is the second SoCon honor the rookie has earned this season as she was named the Defensive Player of the Week in the second week of the season.
Beecher was named to the SpringHill Suites Eagle Invitational All-Tournament Team Saturday after the Eagles went 3-1 to place second in the tourney.
She averaged 5.06 digs per set (81 total) and added 10 services aces and 12 assists in the four matches. Beecher posted a match-high 28 digs in a five-set loss to Wisconsin and recorded 20 digs in a win over South Alabama and 23 digs in a victory over Jacksonville. She leads the team in digs with 265 and is one of just two Eagles to play in every set this season.
Georgia Southern closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 9-5 record, and opens SoCon play on the road this weekend. The Eagles will face Wofford Friday night and Furman Saturday afternoon.
