Georgia Southern Leads Field After First Round

Daniel Island, S.C. - The Georgia Southern golf team leads the field at the SoCon Conference Tournament after one round of play. The Eagles are looking to repeat as conference champions after winning last season. GSU turned in one of their best rounds of the season as they hold a one shot lead over Wofford.
"We are off to a solid start, just what we talked about this morning before play," said Head Coach Larry Mays. "We had three words to think about patience, focus and confidence. Proud off the team effort to put us in the mix after day one. Need two more solid rounds the next couple of days."
The Eagles shot 290 (+2) to lead the field after day one. Wofford trails by one stroke at 2 over par. Samford sits in third (+5), Chattanooga is in fourth (+6), and Furman and College of Charleston are tied for fifth (+7). Elon is in seventh (+9), Appalachian State is eighth (+12), Davidson is ninth (+17), Western Carolina sits in tenth (+18) and UNCG sits in eleventh (+20).
Senior Stephen Jaeger of Chattanooga leads the field individually after shooting a 66 in round one (-6).
Lewis Gruber (Tallahassee, Fla.) leads the Eagles after day one. The senior shot 71 on the day, which tied him for fourth place (-1). Scott Wolfes (St. Simons Island, Ga.) is next for GSU after shooting 72 (E) in round one. Wolfes is in a seven-way tie for sixth place. Zach Hartman (St. Simons Island, Ga.) is tied for 13th after shooting 73 (+1). Blake Olson (Pensacola, Ga.) is tied for 18th shooting 74 (+2) and Hayden Anderson (Knoxville, Tenn.) is tied for 43rd shooting 79 (+7) on the day.
Round two tee times begin at 8 a.m. Monday morning.
