Bellissimo Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern volleyball outside hitter Moriah Bellissimo has been named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced.
Bellissimo hit .380 and averaged 3.82 kills and 3.00 digs per set in a 3-0 week for the Eagles that clinched the SoCon South Division regular-season title. The senior collected 42 kills, 33 digs, five blocks and five service aces for the week. She posted 16 kills and 17 digs against Davidson, 11 kills and six digs against Furman and 15 kills and 10 digs against Wofford.
Bellissimo has 10 double-doubles this season, including two last week, and is averaging 2.87 kills and 3.01 digs a set. She was recently named Capital One Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
It's the seventh SoCon weekly award for the Eagles this season. Alexandra Beecher has been named Defensive Player of the Week three times and has also been named Freshman of the Week. Meredith Paskert was named Offensive Player of the Week, and Kate Van Dyke was named Student-Athlete of the Week.
Georgia Southern (24-6, 15-1), which has won 17 of its last 18 matches, earned the No.1 seed in the SoCon South Division and will play UNCG (13-15, 7-9), the fourth seed from the North Division, in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament Saturday, Nov. 17, at 12:30 p.m. The tournament is in Belk Arena on the campus of Davidson College.
