Assistant Golf Coach Collins Wins Skeadas Cup

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern assistant golf coach Carter Collins has won the 2012 Johnny Skeadas Cup, a points-based award involving many amateur golf tournaments in Georgia, stretching from March to September.
Collins engraves his name on the cup alongside his father, Steve, who won the trophy five times between 1999 and 2007.
Carter won the Bob White Invitational (-7) played at La Vida Golf Club in Savannah, the Louie Griffin Invitational (-9) at Evans Heights Golf Course in his hometown of Claxton and the Golden Isles Invitational played at Brunswick Country Club, where he set a tournament record (68-66-67=201 -15).
He also finished fourth in both the Dan L. Lanier Invitational at the Willow Lake Golf Club in Metter and the Southeastern Invitational at Forest Heights in Statesboro to rack up 234 Player of the Year points and run away from second-place finisher Danny Nelson of Savannah.
The Georgia Southern golf team wrapped up its fall season at the Warrior Wave Invitational in Hawaii last week. The Eagles won team titles at two tournaments, and sophomore Scott Wolfes took home two individual titles in the fall. The Eagles open play in the spring at the Gator Invitational Feb. 9.
