STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern volleyball team will head to Charleston this weekend for its final two regular-season road matches of the campaign. The Eagles, who have won six matches in a row, will take on College of Charleston Friday night at 7 p.m. and meet The Citadel Saturday at 6 p.m.
The Eagles (18-6, 9-1 SoCon) and Cougars (18-6, 9-1 SoCon) sit atop the Southern Conference South Division standings with identical 9-1 records, and College of Charleston currently owns the tiebreaker by virtue of its 3-0 win at Georgia Southern Sept. 29.
That was the Cougars' third straight win over the Eagles since falling 3-0 to Georgia Southern in the 2010 SoCon Tournament Championship. GSU is 11-35 against C of C in the all-time series.
The Eagles rank 29th in the country in digs with 17.26 per set and 45th in kills per set with a 13.90 average. Senior setter Van Dyke ranks 23rd in the nation in assists with 11.26 per set. Meredith Paskert leads GSU in kills with 307, Kym Coley leads the team in blocks with 69 and Alexandra Beecher leads the squad in digs with 415.
Darcy Dorton leads the Cougars and the SoCon in kills with 4.25 a set, while Kerstin Koehler ranks sixth in the league in hitting percentage at .319 and Sloan White is ninth with a .304 mark. The Cougars have won their last five matches.
The Eagles are 28-0 in the all-time series against The Citadel, including a 3-0 victory at home Sept. 28. Rachel Farrell leads the Bulldogs in kills with 2.22 per set, and Ise d'Angelo averages 2.06 kills per set.
The Eagles play their final four regular-season matches at home, beginning with a Nov. 3 contest against North Division foe Western Carolina.
