STATESBORO, Ga. – Fresh off its first team tournament title since 2011, the Georgia Southern golf team heads to the Outer Banks in North Carolina for the 33rd annual ODU/OBX Invitational Oct. 21-23, at Kilmaric Golf Course.
The Eagles will roll out the same lineup that won last week's AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic, the program's first team tournament title since the Eagles won the Southern Conference Championship in 2011.
"We are excited to get right back on the course after our big win in Atlanta," said GSU coach Larry Mays. "Hopefully, we can keep the momentum going up in North Carolina this week."
Joining the Eagles and the host team Old Dominion in the 18-team field is Hartford, Longwood, George Mason, George Washington, James Madison, Elon, Radford, Drexel, Delaware, Loyola, Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth, Hofstra, St. Bonaventure, Drake and Marshall.
Scott Wolfes, Charlie Martin, Hayden Anderson, Will Evans and Matthew Mierzejewski will tee it up for the Eagles.
Wolfes, who has placed in the top-8 in all three tournaments this season, leads the (right) team with a 71.56 scoring average and has finished 1-under in each of his last two tournaments. Martin averages 74.22 strokes a round and has placed fifth and tied for 11th in his last two outings.
Anderson is coming off his best career finish after tying for sixth last week and is averaging 74.25 strokes a round, and Evans is also coming off a career best finish, taking 10th last week. Mierzejewski saw his first tourney action of the season at the AutoTrader.com and posted consecutive 73s in the last two rounds.
Kilmaric Golf Course is a popular Tom Steele design that played host to the prestigious North Carolina Open in 2004 and 2009 and began hosting the ODU/Outer Banks Tournament in 2010 — the same year the tournament moved from a 36-hole to a 54-hole event.
Last year, Georgia won the tournament, pulling away on the back nine for a four-shot victory over Liberty.
Following this weekend, the Eagles have one tournament left this fall, the Warrior Wave Invitational in Kauai, Hawaii Nov. 5-7.
