Volleyball Squad Opens Four-Game Road Swing at Samford

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern volleyball team, winners of four in a row, open a four-match road trip at defending Southern Conference champion and Samford Saturday at 3 p.m. (Eastern). The Eagles will also travel to Chattanooga for a 3 p.m. contest Sunday.
Georgia Southern (16-6, 7-1 SoCon) is in second place in the South Division behind College of Charleston, while Samford (15-7, 7-1 SoCon) leads the North Division. The Eagles are coming off a 3-2 win over Elon last Sunday.
Reigning SoCon Player of the Week Meredith Paskert leads the team in kills, averaging 3.27 per set, and Moriah Bellissimo is averaging 2.87 kills and 3.01 digs a set. Kate Van Dyke ranks 22nd in the country and second in the SoCon in assists with 11.34 per set, and the Eagles are 28th in team digs with a 17.25 average.
Samford leads the all-time series 9-4, but the teams have split the last four meetings. The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-0 win at The Citadel last Saturday after dropping a 3-0 decision to College of Charleston Friday for their only league loss. Samford is 7-0 at home this season.
Lauren Hutchinson (.366) and Katie Murphy (.338) rank second and third in the league in hitting percentage for the Bulldogs, while Michaela Reesnor is fifth in the conference in kills with 3.39 a contest.
Chattanooga (9-14, 3-5 SoCon) is coming off a 3-2 win over The Citadel last Sunday and hosts Davidson Saturday prior to meeting the Eagles. The Mocs lead the all-time series 23-18, but the Eagles have won the last three matches. Christina Teter leads the Mocs in kills with 199, and Julimar Alvarado has 169.
Following the weekend, the Eagles head to Charleston for South Division matches against College of Charleston and The Citadel.
