Women’s Soccer Travels to Elon and UNCG This Weekend

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer travels for the final time in the 2012 regular season this weekend with games at Elon and UNCG. On Friday night, the Eagles face Elon at 7 p.m. and make the short trip to UNCG for Sunday’s road finale against the Spartans at 2 p.m.
Last weekend the Eagles earned just one point, taking a 1-1 draw against College of Charleston on the road. On Sunday at Eagle field, GSU fell to The Citadel, 4-2 to fall to 6-4-4 on the year and 2-3-1 in the SoCon. Southern is led by five goals from sophomore sensation Sydnie Van Curen and four goals from senior Courtney Collins.
Elon enters the weekend at 2-1-3 in conference play following a 2-1 victory over Furman on Sunday. In all games, Elon is 4-6-5 this season. Simi Dhaliwal is the top-scorer for the Phoenix, scoring three of Elon’s 15 goals this season.
UNCG is tied for second place in the SoCon with a 4-1-1 conference mark to go with a 7-6-1 overall record. Cat Barnekow and Chesney White each have four goals this year while Zoe Fishman has four assists on the season with two goals.
Georgia Southern comes back to Eagle Field for the program’s first night game at Eagle Field on Friday evening at 7 p.m. against Furman. Wofford and Davidson come to Eagle field in successive matches to close the 2012 regular season.
