Volleyball Sweeps Conference Opening Homestand

STATESBORO, Ga. - Behind 12 kills each from Hannah Nelson (Norcross, Ga.) and Meredith Paskert (Brecksville, Ohio) The Georgia Southern Volleyball team (9-8, 2-0) completed a sweep of the conference opening homestand with a 3-0 victory over Furman on Saturday afternoon, September 24th.
The Eagles exploded in the first set to win 25-15, but had to stave off a Furman rally to win the second set 27-25. GSU won a close third set, 25-23, to complete the 3-0 sweep.
Georgia Southern hit .271 for the match and posted a first-set percentage of .424. Parker Small (Charlotte, N.C.) led the team with .714 attack percentage, while Paskert was second on the squad with a .407 hitting percentage. Kate Van Dyke (Shawnee, Kan.) setup the offense as usual, recording 34 of the team's 41 assists.
Powered by 17 digs from libero Lauren LaRocque (Frisco, Texas) the Eagle defense held Furman to a .114 hitting percentage and allowed only one player to reach the 10 kill plateau. Christina Dorismond led the Paladins with 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Hayli Ketner (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Moriah Bellissimo (Blackstone, Va.) both added to the defensive effort with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Georgia Southern Volleyball team returns to action next Friday at The Citadel.
