Brackets Announced For SoCon Softball Tournament in Statesboro

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Softball begins its quest for a third Southern Conference Softball Tournament Championship on Wednesday, May 11th, at 7 p.m. against UNCG. The Eagles play host to the 2011 tournament for the second time and the first since the renovations to Eagle Field. Five games on the first day begin on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. as Furman (17-33, 9-15 SoCon) plays Western Carolina (18-34, 3-21) in the play-in game.
The Eagles finished the season at 28-27 overall and 16-8 in the SoCon to earn the No. 3 seed for the tournament. Georgia Southern opens against No. 6 seed UNCG (24-30, 10-14 SoCon) in the final game on Wednesday night. Earlier this season, the Eagles won all three games against the Spartans. The winner of the contest plays the survivor of No. 2 Appalachian State (24-22, 15-7 SoCon) and No. 7 Samford (13-38, 9-15 SoCon), in a contest starting at 5 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded Chattanooga (38-12, 20-3) will play the winner of the play-in game at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. No. 4 College of Charleston (33-19, 12-11 SoCon) takes on the fifth-seeded and defending tournament champion Elon (29-22, 12-12 SoCon) at noon.
After the opening single-elimination game, the rest of the championship is a double-elimination tournament. All game times are Eastern Standard and subject to change. The winner of the SoCon Softball Championship receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Championships.

Tickets are available for purchase at the entrance to Eagle Field. All-session adult passes are $30, while all-session youth passes (pre-kindergarten) will cost $15. Single session passes will also be available for purchase and will cost $5 for adults and $3 for youths. Tickets for groups of 10 or more will be available for $2 a person. Only cash and checks made payable to "Southern Conference" will be taken at the gate. Students enrolled at Southern Conference institutions get in free with a valid I.D.
