STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern's Men's Golf coach Larry Mays has been named to the Division I Men's Golf Committee. Mays will serve a four year term as the representative of the region. Duties of the committee include rules review and changes, selection of regional and championship sites and, at-large selections for the regional tournaments.
"I am excited to serve on the NCAA Men's Golf committee and look forward to the opportunity to give back to college golf," Mays said. "It is an honor to be named to this post and I take the commitment seriously."
This committee fulfils the same role for golf as the NCAA Basketball Committee in determining selections to at-large teams and regional and championship locations for the NCAA Basketball tournament.
Last year, Mays guided the Eagles to an appearance in the 2010 NCAA Championship Tournament, the program's fourth team appearance at nationals under his direction. Georgia Southern returns to action March 18-20th at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga., for the 32nd Schenkel Invitational. Admission for the three-day tournament is free to the general public.
