STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Women's Tennis (2-0) team will play three matches in the Atlanta area this weekend. The Eagles start off with a doubleheader Saturday, February 19th, meeting Kennesaw State (7-0) at 10 a.m. and then Savannah State (1-0) at 2 p.m. Both matches will be contested at Laurel Park in Marietta, Ga. Georgia Southern wraps up the weekend with Georgia State (6-0) Sunday at 10 a.m. in Atlanta's Piedmont Park.

Kennesaw State gives the Eagles their toughest competition so far this season. The Owls' freshman Alexandra Apostu has posted 12 wins, six each in singles and doubles play at the number-three seed. KSU's number-one doubles team of Vera Shkundina and Iesha Holton is 5-2 for the season.

"Kennesaw is a team we faced a lot during the fall and they are very talented this year," Head Coach Amy Bonner said. "In my opinion, we are extremely close with both Kennesaw State and Savannah State as far as the talent level goes, and I think it's going to come down to who wants it more. I'm trying really hard to get my team pumped up and excited about putting everything they've been working on to the test."

The Eagles play Savannah State their second match Saturday. The Tigers defeated Albany State, 5-2, in their season opener and freshman Sandra Kristjansdottir leads the team with a win at the number-one spot for singles and as a member of the top doubles team. Kristjansdottir and Davita Washington clinched a 9-7 victory over the Tigers in the opener.

Georgia State, the final team lined up for the weekend, has the No. 37 nationally ranked doubles team of Tereza Lerova and Kir Kemp. The Panthers own wins over Mississippi State, Emory, Brenau, Mercer and Georgia Perimeter this year.

The undefeated Eagles swept Hampton University, 7-0, last weekend at Hanner Tennis Complex for their home opener. The Eagles started off the day claiming the doubles point with wins at all three seeds. Senior Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) earned a win in straight sets over Hampton's Barenese Myers 6-0, 6-1 at the number-two seed.
