Two Eagles Among MLB's Top-10 Draft Prospects

STATESBORO, Ga. - A pair of Georgia Southern Eagles rank among Major League Baseball's top-10 draft prospects for 2012. Juniors Chris Beck and Victor Roache check in at eight and 10, respectively, on a list of 50 draft eligible high school and college players on the league's website.
The Southern Conference Tournament MVP, Beck, is noted for his three pitches in the article, including a fastball that sits at 92 to 93 mph. The Jefferson, Ga., native led the team or tied for the lead in wins (9), innings pitched (103.0), strikeouts (109) and complete games (2) in 2011.
An All-American by six different publications in 2011, Roache led the NCAA in home runs with 30 and hit .326 with 84 RBIs in a breakout sophomore campaign. En route to an appearance in the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby, he rewrote both the school's and the Southern Conference's record books for home runs in a single season.
Fletcher Joins Braves Staff
Baseball alumni Scott Fletcher, who played on Georgia Southern's 1979 squad, joined the Atlanta Braves staff in the offseason and will serve in a hybrid role as an assistant hitting coach and advance scout.
The former Eagle transferred to Statesboro for his final year of eligibility after playing at Toledo. A Sporting News All-American with GSU, he played 15 seasons in the Major Leagues before retiring after the 1995 season.
