Eagles Sweep The Citadel on Senior Day

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern Volleyball responded from a Friday night loss to the College of Charleston with a three-set win over The Citadel on Saturday night, October 29th, at Hanner Fieldhouse. Prior to the match, Georgia Southern honored its four seniors, Hannah Nelson (Norcross, Ga.), Bethany Sanford (Avondale, Ariz.), Hayli Ketner (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Parker Small (Charlotte, N.C.)
The Eagles posted the sweep over the Bulldogs to improve to 15-13 overall and 7-5 in the SoCon. The visiting Bulldogs drop to 7-18 overall and 0-11 in conference play. Georgia Southern won the opening set, 25-20 and cruised to a 25-16 second set win. The Bulldogs rallied in the third, but Georgia Southern took the victory with a 25-23 win in the final set.
Georgia Southern hit .257 on the night and was led by 11 kills by Stanford. The senior hit at a .308 clip in her final match at the friendly confines in Statesboro. She added 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the season and her third in the last four outings. Meredith Paskert (Brecksville, Ohio) logged eight kills and hit .333.
Setter Kate Van Dyke (Shawnee, Kan.) made 41 assists and completed three aces without error. Moriah Bellissimo (Blackstone, Va.) reached double-digit digs with 10 on the afternoon.
The Eagles held the Bulldogs to a .077 hitting percentage, logging six blocks. The Citadel's Rachael Farrell led the Bulldog attack with 10 kills, hitting .308. Alexa Dalton had 20 assists in the match.
Georgia Southern takes to the road for the final four matches of the regular season, traveling to Western Carolina and Davidson next weekend, before finishing the regular season at Furman and Wofford. The 2011 Southern Conference Tournament starts on Saturday, November 19th in Birmingham, Ala.
