Eagles Fall to College of Charleston on Friday Night

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Volleyball team (14-13, 6-5) fell to the College of Charleston Friday night in a tight 3-2 match at Hanner Fieldhouse. The Eagles return to the court tomorrow for senior day against The Citadel at 4 p.m.
GSU hit .302 in the 25-20, 20-25, 26-24, 16-25, 15-12 five-set loss. The Eagles bounced back from a .133 first-set hitting percentage with three sets of over .300 hitting percentage in sets two, four and fifth sets.
Four Eagles tallied 10 or more kills in the match with Bethany Sanford (Avondale, Ariz.) leading the way 18 kills. Enjoli Johnson (Lilburn, Ga.) recorded 15 kills, while freshman Jamie DeRatt (Wilson, N.C.) added 14 kills. Kate Van Dyke (Shawnee, Kan.) powered the offense with 62 assists and added 11 digs.
The Georgia Southern defense held the Cougars to a .244 hitting percentage. The Eagles kept Charleston to under .200 in the first two sets. Moriah Bellissimo (Blackstone, Va.) posted 25 digs, while Sanford totaled 13 digs. Elyse Chubb and Sloane White led the team with 14 kills each.
Georgia Southern will honor his seniors before Saturday's game against The Citadel.
