Eagles face UNCG in opening round of SoCon Tournament on Sunday afternoon

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Georgia Southern finished the 2011 regular season on a down note with a 2-0 loss at Davidson on Wednesday night. The Eagles will open postseason play on Sunday afternoon with a trip to UNCG. The trip to the second season is Georgia Southern's first appearance in the conference tournament since the 2006 season.
Following a scoreless first half, Davidson (9-8-2, 7-4-0 SoCon) took the lead just 25 seconds into the second period. Rachel Newmister followed her own shot and struck a loose save into the net to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats doubled their lead in the 66th minute on another goal off a rebounded shot. Carly Brahlm finished her second goal of the season to give Davidson a 2-0 lead. She was assisted by Becca Fisher who took the initial shot on the play.
Georgia Southern (6-10-2, 4-6-1 SoCon) finished the night credited with five total shots including a try by Sara Oland (Evans, Ga.) which hit the post in the 73rd minute. Oland finished the match with two shots, her other try going on target. Courtney Collins (Mason, Ohio) also finished the match with two shots for the Eagles.
Georgia Southern advances to the Southern Conference Tournament and open tournament play at UNC Greensboro. The game on Sunday, October 30th, begins at 2 p.m. from the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
