Volleyball Opens Home Slate Monday Against Savannah State

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Volleyball team will look to get back to winning ways on Monday (September 6) in the home opener against Savannah State. The Eagles welcome the Tigers for a 6 p.m. matchup in Hanner Fieldhouse.
Georgia Southern (2-4) is coming off six road matches to open the season first traveling to the War Eagle Invitational and most recently, the MT Blue Raider Bash. Junior outside hitter Bethany Sanford (Avondale, Ariz.) leads the team with 92 kills and a 3.68 kills per set average. Parker Small (Charlotte, N.C.) follows Sanford with 61 kills and leads the team in blocks with 28. Sophomore setter Kate Van Dyke (Shawnee, Kan.) continues to pace the team with 246 assists, 9.84 assists per set. Ashley Roe (Campbell, Calif.) narrowly edges Sanford with a team-high 76 digs; Sanford owns 74.
Scouting Savannah State
Savannah State enters the contest with a 1-4 record having won the season-opening contest against Talladega College, 3-1. This will be the second Southern Conference matchup for the Tigers this season. Wofford defeated Savannah State, 3-0, earlier this season.
The Tigers are paced by Keandra Lewis with 40 kills, followed by Bianca Helton with 33. Ashlee Butler owns 80 assists, while Bryana Gadis leads the team with 34 digs.
