Eagles Welcome South Carolina State Bulldogs

STATESBORO, Ga. – After opening Southern Conference play with two matches on the road, the Georgia Southern Volleyball team returns home to play host to South Carolina State Tuesday, September 28. Match time is slated for 6 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse.
Coming off two road wins, Georgia Southern carries a 10-6 record into the non-conference tilt Tuesday. The Eagles defeated both Wofford and Furman by 3-2 scores to open conference action this past weekend. Juniors Parker Small (Charlotte, N.C.) and Ashley Roe (Campbell, Calif.) were named SoCon Players of the Week with Small recognized as the Offensive Player of the Week and Roe the Defensive Player of the Week.
Georgia Southern is led offensively by Bethany Sanford (Avondale, Ariz.) who owns 230 kills on the season (3.77 kps). Sophomore setter Kate Van Dyke (Shawnee, Kan.) leads the team with 664 assists (10.38 aps), while Roe paces the defense with 237 digs (3.76 dps).
South Carolina State (4-15) went 0-3 at the North Carolina Central Tournament over the weekend. The Bulldogs are led by Jarne Gleaton with 2.82 kills per set, Bria Brimmer with 8.17 assists per set and Melissa Robinson with 2.65 digs per set.
The non-conference opponents will meet for the 23rd time Tuesday night. Georgia Southern leads the all-time series, 15-7, having won the last contest 3-0 in 1998.
