Small, Roe Earn SoCon Player of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Juniors Parker Small and Ashley Roe were recognized by the Southern Conference as the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday (September 27). The players of the week were selected by the league office for all competition during the week of September 27.
Small and Roe led Georgia Southern to a 2-0 start in Southern Conference action this past weekend, defeating both Wofford and Furman, 3-2.
Small hit .491 in the two matches -- .632 against Wofford and .412 against Furman. The Charlotte, N.C., native, committed no errors on 19 attempts with 12 kills against the Terriers. The middle hitter accumulated 16 kills on 34 attempts and only two errors against the Paladins. The 16 kills against Furman marked a season-high. Her .491 hitting percentage in 10 games was the highest on the team, while her 28 kills were second-best on the team.
Roe continued her strong defensive play against the SoCon foes. The Campbell, Calif., libero posted 26 digs in both five-set matches to total 52 in 10 games for an average of 5.20 per set. Her 52 digs led the team in the back court and her 26 digs each marked a season- and career-high for the libero. Her previous season-high was 22 digs against Miami (FL).
Georgia Southern returns to the court playing host to South Carolina State on Tuesday, Sept. 28. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
