Eagles Set for Final Home Match of 2010

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Eagle Volleyball team will honor seniors Lindsey O'Connor (Alpharetta, Ga.), Leah Kettelson (Wray, Colo.) and Sarah Gildersleeve (Naples, Fla.) Tuesday night before the start of the final home match of the season. Georgia Southern and Davidson will have first serve at 6 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse.
“These three seniors have been an integral part of changing the culture of Georgia Southern volleyball,” said Georgia Southern Head Coach Chad Callihan. “They have worked incredibly hard each day to help grow this program and it is something our staff is grateful for and something each one of them should be incredibly proud of. They have invested everything they have in this team and there is no question that they will be leaving this program in a better place due to their contributions.”
GSU (22-8, 12-2 SoCon) had a 10-match winning streak snapped Saturday night, falling 3-1 to College of Charleston for just the second Southern Conference loss of the season and the only loss in Hanner this season.
“Saturday was a difficult match for us as we had a number of things we did not do well,” Callihan added. “We have two weeks to fix our deficiencies and will use these last two matches to correct those. We have a tremendous amount of respect for Davidson and I know these last few matches will have a tournament feel.”
Junior hitters Bethany Sanford (Avondale, Ariz.) and Parker Small (Charlotte, N.C.) pace the Eagle offense, combining for more than six kills per set. Sanford and libero Ashley Roe (Campbell, Calif.) lead GSU defensively with 323 and 451 digs, respectively, while Small has a team-leading 101 blocks.
Leading the Wildcats (16-15, 7-7 SoCon) on offense is Sarabeth Peele with 3.54 kills per set. Defensively, Jennifer Chamblee (3.48 digs per set) and Jordan Benedict (82 total blocks) top Davidson's statistics.
The first 50 fans in attendance will receive a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich and the winner of the season-long raffle to 'Win a Wii' will be announced. Live stats and a subscription-based live video will be available for both matches at www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com.
