Sanford Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second time in three weeks, sophomore Bethany Sanford has been selected as the Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. The outside hitter nailed 59 kills in three matches of the Bash in the 'Boro presented by Verizon Wireless to earn the conference honor for the week of September 14.
Posting double-doubles in all three matches over the weekend, the Avondale, Ariz., native recorded a career-high 24 kills against Coastal Carolina with a .333 hitting percentage. Along with her 10 digs, Sanford's 24 kills were good enough for her 19th career double-double.
Sanford's 18th career double-double came the night before against ACC's Wake Forest, recording 17 kills and 19 digs. In the championship match against Auburn, the Eagle posted 18 kills with 15 digs for her 20th career double-double mark. For the tournament, Sanford paced the Eagles with 59 kills, 44 digs, six blocks and five service aces.
On the season, the sophomore leads the Eagles in kills with 123 and is second on the team in digs with 97.
Sanford was joined by Sarah Gildersleeve on the All-Tournament Team for their efforts in the tournament.
The Eagles return to the court with a road match at Charleston Southern, Wednesday, September 16. First serve in Charleston is slated for 7 p.m. Georgia Southern then closes out its tournament schedule at the Wingate Inn Classic, September 18-19.
