Johnstun Wins Third Consecutive Augusta City Amateur

AUGUSTA, GA – For the third consecutive year, Jordan Johnstun defended his crown at the Forest Hills Golf Club competing in the Augusta City Amateur. The former men's golf student-athlete nabbed the title shooting a 9-under 207 off 71-67-69 rounds, respectively.
“I played really well. I didn't make many mistakes, only five bogeys for three rounds,” said Johnstun. “It is a really big accomplishment to win the tournament three years in a row. No one has done it before and it's nice to have my name on the trophy as well.”
The course, played at the par-72 Forest Hills Golf Club, is a familiar site for Johnstun who played the course during his senior season with the Eagles in 2009 when competing in the Augusta State Invitational. For the amateur tournament, Johnstun recorded 14 birdies and five bogeys. The Evans, Ga., native entered the final 18 holding a two-stroke lead and closed out the tournament with the same margin.
“He's played well in that event and has a good record there,” said Larry Mays, Johnstun's former head coach at Georgia Southern. “Anytime you have an alumni player playing well, not only is it a good accomplishment for him, but it's good for us as well. It shows that our program is developing good players year in and year out. We're very proud of Jordan.”
Johnstun set the tournament record last year with a 14-under 202. This year, Johnstun set another milestone, becoming the first player since the inauguration of the tournament in 1979 to claim the title three times. Only Johnstun and Tommy Carlton had won the tournament in consecutive years.
Johnstun will continue competition this summer with his next stop at the Oglethorpe Invitational July 24-26. The tournament will be contested on the Wilmington Island Club in Savannah, Ga.
“I've played the Oglethorpe twice and finished second in 2007. I think the field keeps getting better each year and it keeps getting tougher and tougher,” Johnstun stated. “I think my game is good enough to win this year if I play well.”
The former Eagle will join six of his former teammates competing in the tournament. Georgia Southern will be represented by current Eagles Logan Blondell, Matt Deal, Spencer Fulford, Joe Monte and Ryan Zabroske as well as former Eagle Ryan LeFevre.
“It's going to be nice to see everyone. It will be fun to get back together and see everyone before school starts,” said Johnstun.
